GMC Yukon Oil Type

2026 GMC Yukon Denali Driving on Road

Keeping your GMC Yukon running at peak performance starts with understanding the oil type your vehicle requires and how a proper oil change protects your engine. Whether you’re cruising around Indianapolis or taking longer highway trips, selecting the right oil and performing regular oil changes is one of the most important maintenance tasks you can do to prolong the life of your Yukon. Keep reading to learn more.

GMC Yukon Oil Change Frequency: How Often Is Best?

According to the recommended GMC Yukon service/maintenance schedule provided in the Owner’s Manual, you should get an oil and filter change at least every 7,500 miles. However, most modern GMC Yukon models are equipped with an engine Oil Life System (OLS). This system continuously monitors operating conditions to determine when you need an oil/filter change.

If the 7,500-mile benchmark and when the OLS tells you that you need an oil/filter change don’t line up, go with what the OLS says. While 7,500 miles is a good general milestone, it may not reflect your driving habits and maintenance needs. If your OLS shows a “CHANGE ENGINE OIL SOON” message, change your oil within the next 600 miles. Don’t wait!

If you don’t have an OLS, consider your driving habits and requirements to make the best determination on when you should get an oil/filter change. For an expert’s opinion, visit our dealership in Lafayette and speak with our service professionals

GMC Yukon Oil Type: What Kind Of Oil Is Best?

You should use a fully synthetic SAE 0W-20 viscosity grade engine oil from dexos™1. Dexos™1 engine oils have been specifically formulated for use in GM vehicles, including the Yukon. Engine oil additives won’t be necessary, as this formulation has everything you need for excellent engine performance on Indianapolis roads.

What Type Of GMC Yukon Oil Filter Should I Use?

A modern GMC Yukon typically uses a spin-on engine oil filter across both gasoline- and diesel-powered variants, though this can vary with model age. If you’re unsure of the type of filter you should use, visit our dealership near Frankfort and consult with our experts.

As for the brand you should use, Lafayette GMC recommends that you use ACDelco, since they are owned and operated by GM to provide OEM-approved parts to Delphi drivers. By using OEM-approved components for maintenance, you’re not just ensuring optimal performance, but also doing everything in your power to maintain factory warranty coverage and your peace of mind.
